Building on the present assets including the existing St. David's Shopping Centre, the £675 Million scheme is set to transform the Southern end of the City and give a currently underused area a new lease of life, by creating attractive and safe public spaces, alongside a unique and exciting contemporary retail space catering for the needs of the 21st century shopper.
The existing centre is currently home to around 60 stores including Boots, BHS, Debenhams and M&S and St. David's 2 heralds John Lewis’ first ever presence in Wales. As the “anchor” outlet of the Southern end of the development, the 260,000 sq ft, 4 storey department store will showcase all the familiar brands associated with John Lewis and represents an exciting addition to retailing in Cardiff.
Also incorporated in the St David's 2 development will be new stores, cafes, bars, restaurants, 300 luxurious, contemporary apartments with panoramic views across the city and a stunning new six storey 55,000 sq feet central library building boasting the latest characteristics in environmental architecture including a green roof designed to enhance biodiversity through selection of local native species,
provide rainwater retention, reduce heat gain during summer and improve thermal insulation during winter.
Other sustainable features include energy and water efficient services, and materials with low environmental impact..
Both centres combined will cover around 1.4 million sq ft creating a stunning new retail destination that can lay claim to being one of the largest in the UK and acts as a fitting gateway to the Capital City welcoming visitors as they approach from the Central train station.
DML have been commissioned to supply and install Kawneer curtain walling screens to the lift shaft entrances, along with main entrance doors and screens and numerous stainless steel shop fronts. Additionally we’re also supplying and installing entrance doors and screens to the residential part of the complex.
