Integral to the overall aesthetics was DML's Rainscreen cladding, a panel based system supported on Downer helping hand brackets, bolted to the support structure.
To afford flexibility in achieving the desired cladding zone, the brackets were supplied in various lengths and to facilitate greater tolerance, adjustment and accuracy within the system, a continuous vertical angle was slotted within the clamp prongs of the helping hand bracket. Once in the correct position, the vertical angle was then screw fixed in position. 75mm Kingspan foil backed insulation was fixed to the outside face of the block work wall and all joints were foil taped to ensure that both the required U/value
was achieved and also an un-broken vapour barrier was provided.
Downer support rails were then accurately positioned in continuous horizontal lengths at the desired centres.
Facing panels manufactured from 1.2mm thick bronze sheet were married to the cladding to form a "composite" panel with an overall thickness of 25mm. These panels also incorporated an anti-drumming material to the inner surface and were fitted with horizontal downer rails.
The finish to the bronze facing panels was BMA toned and waxed which was applied in DML's workshop prior to delivery to site.
The composite panels were simply hooked into place with the Downer rail on the back of the panel locating on the Downer rail fixed to structure.
Final adjustment was made to the level of the panel via the jack screws which were incorporated to every panel. This ensured that constant horizontal and vertical joint between the panels was achieved, delivering crisp, sharp lines.
Roof and floor slab edge horizontal cladding and column casings.
DML provided additional secondary support which was manufactured from pressed Zintec steel and shaped Eastern European larch timbers.
The fixing of this secondary support provided the necessary tolerance to overcome discrepancies with the main support structure, and also ensured that the fascias, soffits and column casings were installed to very accurate tolerances.
Wherever possible DML used "secret" fixings to maintain an uninterrupted finish to the panels.
As with the main panels. the soffits, fascias and column casings were manufactured from 1.2mm thick bronze sheet BMA toned and waxed.
The copings forming part of the fascias and copings were manufactured from 2mm thick aluminium and finished in polyester powder coated FDK 8463, which achieved a finish compatible with the BMA toning.
