Products Used:
Undertaken on behalf Balfour Beatty and Mansells, due to the technical nature of
the project and the various products used in forming the façade. the project gave DML
a fantastic opportunity to showcase our expert total façade solution capabilities.
The works spread over four buildings, each involving differing products and design
solutions to meet the client’s exacting needs.
Site 3 included the main façade works on Hanover Street, consisting of Kawneer
curtain walling separated by Zinc panelling, the design of which formed a series
of cruciform frames around the curtain walling bays over two floors.
Again over two floors, the façade continued onto College Lane and interfaced
With Zinc rainscreen cladding that "zigzagged" around the terrace areas to
the rear of the building.
Glazed within the Zinc rainscreen were several curtain walling screens and bespoke
frames to house glass block walls, along with all the access doors to the terrace areas.
Bespoke aluminium copings that followed the terrace line around the building on two floors and completely around the roof area, formed a seamless transition between the floors and terrace areas.
To align where the building changes from our façade to specialist brickwork, the copings
changed from powder coated to bronze anodised. Additionally the roof coping interfaced
with both the façade to Hanover Street and numerous rooflights forming lightwells
into the building.
Incidental works included corner claddings and aluminium wall claddings to the roof lift overrun. Fire stopping where our façade sailed over intermediate floors, membraning and EPDM sealing works.
Site 3BE was a completely different test. This project included providing toned copper
rainscreen walling to two elevations, with the rainscreen incorporating bespoke large
windows and Kawneer structural glazing. The cladding posed numerous design
challenges as it had to interface with 200 year old brickwork retained façades.
We fitted black anodised aluminium cladding to the roof and Kawneer curtain wall glazing
to all four sides of a roof-light pod along with all interfacing flashings to the roof of the pod.
A 3 storey Reglit glass screen was provided to the courtyard elevation along with all
flashings to interface to the existing retained façade that formed the walls to a stairwell
leading directly to the roof, where was topped off with aluminium cladding to the roof
oversail, complemented by bespoke copings.
Incidental works included bespoke dual material roof copings, all membraning associated
with our works and EPDM provision and capture.
Site 5 involved more "traditional" work consisting of various designs of Kawneer curtain
walling and shop entrances. Again we supplied and installed all EPDM around
the screens and bespoke brackets to resolve complicated installation details.
Commissioned by Mansells, Site 8 was a fascinating project fusing traditional façades with
ultra modern abstract façades. The scope of works consisted of bronze anodised bespoke
panels forming an ornate wall cladding including windows surrounds to run the full length
of the arcade on one side and one return. Opposite to this was we provided structural
glass curtain walling, planar glazing and glass doors stitched into an abstract angular
coloured façade that ran the length of the arcade.
Other works included Bronze anodised aluminium circular column claddings and bespoke
bronze anodised aluminium entrance signage fascia including bronze raised lettering.
